Luminary Cloud Product Updates
Release Notes - Nov 12, 2024
Here's what's new in our latest update:
Luminary Visualization for Post-Processing
Previously, we released Luminary's client-side visualization for pre-processing and geometry modification. We're excited to now extend this to post-processing, enabling more responsive and higher quality visualization.
Interactive Box Widget
We've implemented an interactive interface for creating and placing boxes. You can now simply drag arrows to resize or move the box.
Checklist for Geometry Modification
A checklist has been added to the top-right of the geometry modification tab to provide better guidance on the steps that you need to complete before moving on to simulation setup.

Improved Geometry Selection Context
The contextual menus have been improved to make it easier for you to find and select geometry when right-clicking surfaces and volumes.
Key changes include:
- Reordered items and sections
- Changed "Ghost Selection" to "Make Transparent"
- Added "Make Others Transparent (Reveal)"
- Removed “Selection” text for input options. For example, "Hide Selection" is now simply "Hide"
- Added new items and icons to the Geometry menu
Arrow Annotation for Output Direction
When specifying the direction of an Output, an arrow will now be displayed as a visual reference. For moment outputs, the center of the arrow represents the moment center.
Luminary SDK v0.8.0 Released
Functions to information has been added to the SDK, providing access to the features and feature issues for a Geometry. Read more about the release here.
Other Enhancements
- Improved robustness for imprinting
- Changed title and description text on the Ghost Mode panel
- Improved meshing initialization robustness
Fixed Issues
- In some cases, CSV exports of point outputs did not contain the correct headers
- Removed potential issue in which a user could run a simulation with a stopping condition defined on an output with multiple surfaces

Here's what's new in our latest update:
Reynolds Number Displayed Based on Reference Values
The Reynolds Number is now automatically calculated and displayed based on the Reference Values you input.

Viscous and Pressure Drag Added to Outputs List
Viscous Drag (N) and Pressure Drag (N) have been added as scalar quantities in the Outputs list, allowing you to evaluate each component of drag independently.

UI/SDK Compatibility: Seamless Mesh Upload via the SDK
Previously, a mesh that was uploaded via the SDK was not accessible in the Setup tab. When opening the Results tab, the Geometry tree panel was also not visible.
Now you can upload a mesh to a project via the SDK and seamlessly use it for model setup, solve, and post-processing in the UI.
Other Enhancements
- Reduced wait times associated with allocating compute resources for server-side rendering
- Before a simulation starts running (in the allocating/initializing phases) you can Cancel a simulation and no solution will be written out. Once a simulation is running, the button will now say Stop instead of Cancel, to more clearly indicate that the solution will stop at the current iteration and the results will be saved.
Fixed Issues
- An Output for residuals was not automatically created upon opening a new project or adding additional physics
- In the usage table on the Account Usage page, numerical columns were not sorting correctly
- When uploading some CAD files, the upload would fail without providing any geometry health check information. Now additional information will be provided in these cases
Release Notes - October 29, 2024
Here's what's new in our latest update:
Luminary Starter Edition Released
Luminary's Starter Edition is a plan for engineers who want to get started on the platform quickly. The plan gives users immediate access to the platform, along with $500 in free credits. You can learn more about the Starter Edition here.
If you know anyone who might be interested in trying out Luminary, invite them to sign up here.
Corners Representation for Box Shape Definition
Previously, a Box could be created using the center and side lengths as input parameters. We've now added the option to define a Box using corners.
Under Shape Definition, select Corners and enter the coordinates for the Bottom Left and Top Right corners of the box. You can also rotate the box using the Orientation input fields.

Re-use Adapted Mesh after Running a Solve with Lumi Mesh Adaptation (LMA)
After running a solve with Lumi Mesh Adaptation (LMA), you can now select the final version of the adapted mesh from the mesh list for use in subsequent simulations
Other Enhancements
- The default value for Iterations per Output is now 1000 iterations
- When first setting up a project, all volumes will now default to compressible flow
- Monitor points are now supported for stationary volumes in unsteady moving grid simulations
Fixed Issues
- Some users experienced crashes when uploading a mesh in large DOEs
Release Notes - October 22, 2024
Here's what's new in our latest update:
Allow Selection of Volumes for Imprint
Previously, all volumes were imprinted when using the imprinting functionality. Now you can select a subset of the volumes in your model to imprint.
When you select Imprint from the toolbar, Imprint All is checked by default. This will imprint all Volumes when you click Apply:

Unselecting this option will enable you to select specific Volumes to imprint from the geometry tree:

Read more about Imprinting here.
Fixed Issues
- Some users experienced issues when attempting to import non-commercial CAD file formats exported from Solidworks and Creo/ProE
Release Notes - October 15, 2024
Here's what's new in our latest update:
Reference Lengths for Pitch, Yaw, and Roll
Previously, a single reference length was used across all moments, but now you can optionally set different reference lengths for pitch, yaw, and roll. Read more about reference values here.

Default to Final Iteration for All Finished Jobs
When loading or refreshing a simulation result for "Completed" simulations, the final iteration is shown by default. This has now been extended so that when you load a Failed' or 'Suspended' simulation the final solution available is shown.
SDK Updated to Version 0.7.0
The Luminary Cloud Python SDK has been updated to version 0.7.0. Learn more here.
Release Notes - October 8, 2024
Here's what's new in our latest update:
Adjoint Sensitivity Analysis
Adjoint sensitivity analysis is used to determine how the output of a simulation is affected by small changes to its input parameters. Learn more about this new feature and how to use it here.
Solution Residuals
Now when you create physics, solution residuals are created automatically. Access these under the Outputs section of the control panel.
Fixed Issues
Some users were unable to upload Rhino files.

Here's what's new in our latest update:
Simulation Issues Console
Click on Simulation Issues at the bottom of the screen to launch the console and see which items still need to be configured before you can run a simulation.
Temporal Inlet Boundary Conditions
Inlet boundary conditions now support temporal (time varying) tabulated profiles. Learn more about tabulated profiles here.
3D Viewer Improvements
Previously Luminary3D, our visualization service, was only available for uploaded CAD models, but we've expanded it to include meshes. You'll notice an improved experience, faster load times, and new features for easier viewing of model surfaces.
File Upload Improvements
Now you can upload multiple geometry files at once. A max of 5 files of the same type can be uploaded at the same time.
Initial Solutions and Solutions for Cancelled Jobs
Now you can view the initial solution for your simulations. Additionally, when a simulation is cancelled, Luminary will still write a solution.
Zoom to Selection
Click the button in the bottom toolbar or press shift + F to zoom to selected surfaces.
